On Saturday afternoon at around 2.15pm a yacht ran aground just inside the Ballina bar with three people on board.

‘The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by New South Wales Ambulance on a primary mission to the northern breakwall of the Ballina bar,’ said a spokesperson for Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

‘Once overhead the scene, the helicopter was advised that the people had been accounted for and rescued by private vessels. Marine Rescue and NSW Police vessels had also been called.’

The yacht was taken under tow back to Ballina.
