The Greens’ propaganda pamphlet recently distributed in the Cumbalum area shows once again they are the party of populism, an ideology that pits sections of society against each other. By purporting to not stop fighting for renters and home purchasers, by fixing rents and mortgage rates they point the finger at the so-called elites, apparently greedy landlords amongst them.

It is worth pointing out here that Donald Trump was a populist of the right railing against the elites of Washington with slogans such as ‘Drain the Swamp’ and promising Americans that he could fix all their concerns and ‘Make America Great Again’ without actually telling America how.

As with all populists the Greens in their pamphlet are saying how easy it would be to fix the problems highlighted. ‘Freeze rents’ they cry and ‘that will fix that problem’. A responsibility of the states. More anguished cries. Freeze interest rates. Not sure how given the independence of the Reserve Bank.

By blocking Labor’s housing bill in the Senate and acting like spoiled children they are only making the problems worse. It is about time they grew up and joined the adults in the room.

Alan Veacock, Cumbalum (Labor member)

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. But half of modern politics is about the vibe, and feelies. What you’re suggesting would require people to do their own research. Most people don’t know how, or couldn’t be bothered. You are suggesting the majority would have to fore go having an opinion, and start seeing media as entertainment, rather than the fount of all truthiness. That is what is referred to as a ‘Pipe Dream’.

  2. Good on you Alan for calling out these deceitful Greens for the outright propaganda they continually indulge in to try to steal seats away from the ALP, using undeliverable populist politics, is this the bullshit we are going to be inundated with from Mandy Nolan and the Greens in the lead up to the next election? it sadly looks like it.

    • Keith, Keith, Keith, is; Skaty Flaky Katy Gallagher “No one had any knowledge, how dare you”, the promotion of RobDebt perp, Kathryn Campbell, the bull faeces that we are going to keep being inundated with from your A ustralian L iberal-lite P arty mob?
Keith, the best advertisement for dumping a totally clueless and hopeless Team ALP is….the current ALP itself!
The Greens, the Grrens don’t need to anything more than adopting Napoleon’s philosphy of, not interferring with an opponent when they are making mistakes.

Keith, your ALP mob needs to stop trying so hard at being Liberal-lite, being a paler shade of Morriosn or Dutton is not working for your mob.

Keith, no need to settle for fifth rate Lab and LibNat, Make Australia Great Again, go Greens way to get the country back on track!

  3. I could find only the March quarter update for the AFF returns but going on these, by my very rough calculations the proposed $10 billion HAFF’s return since the bill was first rejected in March would be approaching $150 million. By October it would be …?

    • Mr Lizardbreath, maybe the Greens might make up the ever growing shortfall, because of their infantile obstinance in the Senate, but I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting.

      • Keith, Keith, Keith, you can come up for air, NOW, we don’t want you passing away.

Keith my man, thanks to the Greens $’s2billions was found for “the everything is impossible until its not” PM Albo to announce Social Housing Accelerator last June – . Fanatstic. Great Move. Well done Greens!!!!!
And yes Keith, there’s a whole lot more where that $’s2billions came from, a something like $’s20billions Budget Surplus that the Greens have been calling for to be used, NOW, for social and affordable housing.

So yes, Keith, the Greens happy once again to lead the too slow, too lazy, couch dosing Albanese / ALP.

        • Taking credit for something already in the pipeline. Look at the greens call for a national freeze on rents, really can you see this happening especially as not allowed under the constitution and you have to get 8 governments to agree- more disingenuous policy from that party.

        • Joachim my man, your comments are a laugh a minute, the Greens have enormous trouble leading themselves let anyone else, LOL, you really need to re-join reality old son.

        • You do realise that $5b worth of housing is bought by foreigners each year? Ever wonder why 10% of the houses in this country are empty? Coping the yearly outgoings in Australia, is more attractive than buying tofu in China.

  4. Poor sad hallucinating foolish small minded greens. Really, people vote for them, how sad and soul destroying they are. If you want to experience living in the stone age continue to support them.
