Binna Burra-based rehab centre, The Buttery, celebrated 50 years of serving the community this year, and held a gala dinner for 150 supporters in Tweed Heads on September 14.
The not-for-profit charity, which assists people living with alcohol and substance misuse and mental health conditions to rebuild their lives, was immortalised in Australian musician Paul Kelly’s song, ‘To Her Door’.
Organisers say that in those 50 years, ‘The Buttery has provided services to over 5,000 participants in its residential programs, and 20,000 participants in its outreach programs’.
The six-part podcast, To Their Door, which chronicles The Buttery’s 50-year history, was launched at the dinner. Ex-Buttery participant and Hoodoo Gurus bassist, Rick Grossman, also performed an acoustic duo set. Rick attended The Buttery’s residential program in 1986.
