NSW Police say there are still no information or updates about a swimmer reportedly missing at Tallow Beach, Byron Bay.


NSW police say that the search for a missing swimmer will resume at 8am today at Tallow Beach.

A search began for a swimmer last seen at a Byron Bay yesterday at about 3pm when emergency services were called to Tallow Beach following reports a man had reportedly entered the water and was seen in distress before failing to resurface.

Officers attached to Tweed/Byron Police District arrived and immediately commenced a search for the man.

The search involved local police as well as Surf Lifesavers, Marine Rescue NSW, and a Queensland rescue helicopter.

This morning at 7.45am, NSW Police Media told The Echo that there was no update – no persons has been located and no missing person reports were received.

The search anticipated to resume at 8am.

Police are appealing for anyone who might have seen the man around this time, he is described as being of Caucasian appearance and aged in his 50s. He was last seen in light coloured board shorts.

As inquires continue police are urging anyone with information to contact Byron Bay police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
