There were garage sales across the North Coast on the weekend as part of the region-wide celebration to promote reuse over landfill, Second Hand Saturday.
Despite the rain hanging around, many people took the opportunity to turn trash into treasure for the biggest day of garage sales on the North Coast, with over 250 separate events happening concurrently in the shires of Ballina, Byron, Clarence Valley, Kyogle, Lismore City, Richmond Valley and Tweed.
Rena Hurley from Lennox Head told The Echo she’d sold half her items before lunchtime. ‘It’s been great fun!’ She said popular items had included 4WD equipment, bikes, and camping equipment.
Second Hand Saturday followed a string of reuse and repair workshops happening across the Northern Rivers for Buy Nothing New month in October.
