The Bangalow Show started off with tricky weather on Friday before blossoming into a perfect day on Saturday.

With the aim of becoming an ambassador for her local community, the 2024 Bangalow Show Young Woman of the Year winner Danielle Matthie was very please to be presented the blue sash at the official opening.

The Young Woman of the Year competition is open to any young woman aged between 18 and 24 who has great community spirit.

The Young Woman of the Year is not a beauty contest but an opportunity to make some friends and learn more about the local community and develop your leadership skills and foster confidence.

Dannielle is a fourth-generation Bangalow lass who says that her aunt, her dad and her uncle also competed in the junior section of the competiton when they were very young.

‘It’s pretty exciting to win,’ said Danielle who at 17-years-of-age has only just graduated from year 12.

Danielle will now go on to represent the area at the next level of competition.

‘A highlight of winning this will be going to zone and meeting a lot of other young, like-minded women.’

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
