Having just survived a medical episode, I realise just how badly we are being treated here by our city-centric experts, who have probably never done a real day’s work in their lives! But, in difficult circumstances, I dips me lid to our medical workers here – their service was second to none.

How many of you have tried to get an appointment recently, over the months since the new system has been implemented? How long did you have to wait – weeks? Months? It is totally unacceptable!

Well done Murwillumbah doctors Camilleri and Wellm for speaking out. There are no two ways about it. These so-called experts seem to overlook the simple fact that we are people not just numbers on a computer algorithm. They seem to overlook that we are basically a rural entity, that we do not waste our time making appointments for trivial issues. When we wish to make an appointment it is because we feel a serious need to seek medical assistance – ASAP, not in months to come!

Come on locals we must be proactive in supporting our doctors here, for the simple reason that they are here to look after us, whether we are a baby, a child, a mother, a father or an old-aged pensioner.

Mike Yarrow, Byangum

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
