Firefighters in Tabulam and Nymboida, southwest of Lismore, are hoping today’s cooler weather will help work on containing several large fires in the region.
Authorities overnight issued emergency warnings for several fires, some still burning out of control as of this morning.
The Rural Fire Serice says three firefighters were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure after a truck rolled over south of Tabulam but the volunteers have escaped injury.
The ABC says four properties had been destroyed by Wednesday morning.
Highways closed, residents warned of ember attacks
Road closures in the area have included the New England and Bruxner Highways and anyone wishing to travel south is advised to check the latest road closure information before leaving.
Emergency warnings were issued Tuesday evening for various fires including in Tabulam, Woodside, the Donnybrook State Forest, Nymboida, Tenterfield, and Ulan near Mudgee.
The Frost Rd fire in Woodside is one of the largest at nearly 5,000 hectares and the Ogilvie Drive Fire at Tabulam jumped across the Clarence River late Tuesday.
Evacuation Centres have opened at the Tenterfield Showgrounds and the Memorial Hall in Tabulam.
Earlier on Tuesday the RFS was warning residents of Tenterfield and surrounds to prepare for an ember attack.
The volunteers were asking people to avoid calling Triple Zero unless they could actually see flames.
Fires around the region have been downgraded to watch and act or advice levels as of Wednesday morning but authorities say forecast winds could again pose danger today and for everyone to check the Hazards Near Me app.
