A suspected suicide in the Tweed Hospital’s mental health ward more than three years ago is the subject of a state coronial inquest due to start in Lismore today.

A woman, referred to in the case as A.R, reportedly died in the hospital in July 2020.

The woman was a Byron Bay resident at the time of her death.

State Deputy Coroner Harriet Grahame is to examine whether the woman received appropriate care during her hospital stay.

The inquest is happening at the Lismore Local Court, with A.R.’s partner at the time of her death expected to testify today.
