Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Humanitarian aid in Gaza – Hamas has continued to fire over 10,000 missiles into Israel since their initiation of this war. Each missile costs form aprox $2,000 for short range to $10,000 for long range. At a medium $5,000 each, they have spent about $50,000,000 ( fifty million dollars) just on missiles since October 7th – perhaps they could stop continually launching missiles, and reallocate some funding to humanitarian aid, rather than trying to kill people – yes it takes two to tango, but the Israelis look like they are heading towards throwing out the present particularly right wing, religious extremist, anti ‘Palestinian’ govt, while Hamas still sits on its agenda to take over and occupy Israel by violence. Arafat moved from violence to a peace deal, but Hamas rejected it ( and further peace attempts) and sabotaged them with ongoing violence, both against Israel and against Fatah (the other main ‘Palestinian’ political party. Hamas is a part of Irans push to be the Islamic entity controlling the middle east, as is Hezbollah who were a part of the civil war in Lebanon between the Muslims and Christians ( and who have 150,000 missiles – ie costing aprox 7.5 Billion Dollars while Lebanons economy is on the scrap heap. Plenty of money for violent Islamic Jihad to bring the world under the control of Islam, but not for humanitarian purposes. The peacemakers from both sides need to be sought out and consign the extremists to the garbage tip.

    • They are just sugar motor hobby rockets with a small fertiliser bomb. If it is costing them US$2000, they are doing it wrong.

  2. Yes, I see John.
It does seem exorbitantly expensive to retaliate for what has been seventy-five years of jewish atrocities.
So where can we donate to the just cause of freeing Palestine from these fascist jewish monsters ?
    Cheers, G”)

    • Ken, to support peace in this region, both the Israeli and Palestinian fascists need to be sidelined – a far more nuanced assessment of the sectors of both societies needs to be assessed – Israel, with previous demonstrations of 100,000 Israelis against their present govt is the way forward on the Israeli side. Hamas is a Islamofascist organisation that opposes a two state solution, opposed Arafats peace deal as it was for peace and not for the Islamic takeover of Israel, opposes ( and kills)the other main Palestinian political opposition, Fatah, as Fatah also support a two state solution and dont suport the Islamic takeover of Israel. Google Hamas’s founding documents – its pure aim is taking over Israel and convert it to a fundamentalist Islamic state under Hamas’s rule (look at both the original Hamas document and the current – the current altered under pressure from surrounding countries as Palestine is a region bigger than Israel). Remember the Arab Spring? Young and progressive Muslims atempting to get out from under the rule of despotic and islamic fundamentalist govts. Major 1000+ Gazan protests against Hamas violently shut down by Hamas. Gazan women opposing to being subjugated by men and forced to wear Hijabs, put to death in Gazas annual number of “honour killings”. There are a number of informal Israeli/Palestinian peace groups ( including an Israeli/Palestinian woman’s peace group that has been meeting throughout this latest conflict), but here are a few of the more established groups that have been and continue to work for peace – not sure if they take donations:
Alliance for Middle East Peace (ALLMEP)
EcoPeace / Friends of the Earth Middle East.
      Mejdi.
Peres Center for Peace. … nuanced
IPCRI – Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information.
      Aix Group.
