Lismore can look forward to the middle of the year when additional paramedics will be stationed in town – Member for Lismore, Janelle Saffin, says the government has announced the regional locations to get more paramedics and Lismore Ambulance station is one of the sites.
Ms Saffin says this is great news and comes on the heels of the new pay agreement that gives professional recognition to our paramedics. ‘NSW Ambulance will begin consulting unions and local staff about how many paramedics will be allocated to each region, as well as any capital works necessary to accommodate the additional staff,’ she said.
More paramedics means better response times
‘It’s good to see the roll out of the extra positions starting, because more paramedics means better response times, and better health outcomes for patients.
‘The extra positions will provide more support to our existing NSW Ambulance staff in Lismore,’ she said.
Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park is overseeing the delivering of an additional 500 paramedics for regional, rural and remote communities over a four year period, beginning with 125 in 2024.
The government says the boost regional paramedics forms part of a broader suite of measures to build a supported regional workforce and improve access to and delivery of healthcare across regional communities, including: doubling rural health incentives; boosting more doctors in our regional GP surgeries as well as hospitals; rolling out health worker accommodation; and delivering safe staffing levels in our hospitals.
