Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. I’m not sure what hallucinogen your reporter was on last night but the streets of Byron were pretty much empty on New Year’s Eve. The footpaths were crowded but that’s about it. As for “Soul Street” – seriously? What a fizzer. Blocking off the street for that? A few plastic tables and chairs and a tiny stage with a dj and some solo acts does not make a New Year’s Celebration. The looks of WTF? on the passers-by faces was the best entertainment on offer.
The winners were the restaurants and bars where disappointed punters flocked to.
What a let down. It’s pretty obvious many B.S. Councillors have achieved their aim of destroying Byron Bay’s sense of fun on New Year’s Eve.

  2. And at a cost of $167,000. For the next three years Council has adopted to spend less – $100,000 per each of the 3 evenings. Councillors, community members and the Police used to meet in a Council NYE Committee and put on the NYE events for no cost to Council, bringing the community together to put on the events, with business donations ( eg $5,000 from the Beach hotel) and bands supplied for free from Tom Mooney, after they’d done their sets at his pubs.

  3. Byron is finished
    Yuppies no hippie
    It’s amazing how much
Blood u can get out of a
    Stone 🪨 have nothing
    Good to add sorry 😞
