National minimum wage increases to $26.44p/h

With the Fair Work Commission’s decision to increase the national minimum wage by 4.75%, Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) is calling for further action to support people doing it tough, as well as the frontline community services helping them. “People are under severe pressure from interest rate rises, rent increases, higher fuel costs, and growing economic uncertainty due to the conflict in the Middle East,” said ACOSS Acting CEO Edwina MacDonald.

A newly released video shows what happened after Queensland Police responded to reports that a three-year-old was trapped in a Skills Tester (Claw Machine) at a Capalaba shopping centre at 7.15pm on Saturday, January 27.

Three-year-old Ethan reportedly had climbed into the machine through its prize dispenser and was in no hurry to get out.

Police ensured Ethan was at a safe distance before breaking a glass window of the machine in order to free him. Ethan was then returned safely to his family.
