Bottlenecks in Northern NSW are predicted to occur at Coffs Harbour and Tugun over the Easter long weekend. This is expected to be further impacted by work on the Pacific Highway just north of the Queensland border; work that was supposed to be finished in late 2023 but appears to have no end date in sight.

‘Transport for NSW is encouraging motorists travelling on the Pacific Motorway through northern NSW to plan their trip and allow extra travel time during the Easter long weekend, with high traffic volumes and delays expected,’ said a spokesperson in a press release.

‘Coffs Harbour and Tugun, near the NSW/Queensland border, are two of four known pinch points for people travelling northbound to Queensland on the Pacific Motorway.

‘M1 Pacific Motorway upgrades in Queensland could cause significant traffic delays north of the NSW border. While this work will pause during the Easter period, heavy congestion is expected on the Pacific Motorway north of the NSW border at most times, with the busiest days predicted to be Monday 1 and Tuesday 2 April.’

Double demerits

Police will be out in force and double demerit points for speeding, motorcycle helmet, seatbelt and mobile phone offences will apply from Thursday 28 March to Monday 1 April 2024.

For more details about predicted delays at Tugun and other known holiday traffic pinch points, see the NSW Holiday and Journey planning website.
