Police have arrested a man following the discovery of a woman’s body in a car in Evans Head.

About 8.10am today (Friday, 8 March, 2024), emergency services were called to a unit on Park Street, Evans Head, following reports of a concern for welfare.

Officers attached to Richmond Police District arrived to find the body of a 60-year-old woman in the boot of a car. It is alleged that she had stab wounds. 

A 39-year-old man – known to the woman – was arrested at the scene and taken to Ballina Police Station where he is assisting with inquiries.

Police have established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the incident.

Inquiries are ongoing.
