Police say they’ve charged a Northern Rivers teenager with multiple driving offences as a part of investigations under their Operation Mongoose North.
Officers say they tried to stop a car on Nimbin’s Thorburn Street around 3.20pm Wednesday 27 March 2024, having received reports the driver was driving dangerously.
Richmond Police District officers found the car, with the help of the Highway and Traffic Patrol Command, abandoned nearby on Nimbin’s Stewarts Way.
Subsequent inquiries led to the arrest of a 17-year-old boy at Nimbin Police Station.
Police have charged the youth with several offences related to the incident and say they will allege in court he has been involved in multiple car thefts across the Casuarina, Wollongbar, Ballina and Nimbin areas.
The boy was initially expected to appear before the Children’s Court on Friday 29 March, with the date expected to be postponed until after Easter.
