This year celebrated the 19th year of the annual Lennox Head tree planting day along the iconic Lennox Headland that took place on May 10.
‘What began as a modest gathering of 20 volunteers tending to 140 seedlings in 2003 has blossomed into a significant community event,’ James Brideson, Ballina Shire Council Natural Resource Officer told The Echo.
With 122 volunteers they were able to plant around 1,100 native seedlings along the Lennox Headland.
‘We are so grateful to the environmental champions who come each year, roll up their sleeves and help make a tangible difference to local environment,’ said Mr Brideson.
Ballina Shire Council supplied the trees, mulch, water, and some tools while the Lennox Head business community and volunteer groups generously donated a barbecue and refreshments.
