Locals are being called to join in a rally at Byron Bay this Saturday at 2pm calling on the Australian government to take action against the deaths of Palestinians in the invasion of Gaza by Israel.

This comes as Israel continues its attack on the city of Rafah and the death toll continues to mount as more than 35,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war began. The Israeli response was triggered by the horrific attack by Hamas on October 7 that left 1,139 Israelis dead and dozens are still being held hostage by Hamas.

‘As the crisis in Gaza continues to escalate, concerned citizens are coming together to demand immediate action from the Australian government to stop the genocide and mass starvation of the Indigenous civilian population,’ said Northern Rivers Friends of Palestine (NRFOP) in a press release.

Hate speech not tolerated

‘We stand firmly for equal rights for all people, and any form of discrimination and hate speech will not be tolerated, emphasized NRFOP.

‘Let’s remember our shared purpose: alleviating the suffering of innocent people facing grave danger. Through our collective advocacy, we can make a difference and save lives.’

The organisers are calling on the Australian government to change its policies and take decisive action to end the atrocities in Gaza.

‘With the support of special guests such as Nasser Mashni from Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN), the event aims to amplify the voices of those affected by the crisis and mobilise the community towards meaningful action.

‘Under the banner of unity and solidarity, community members will gather at Railway Park for a peaceful rally.’

The event will commence with a march from Railway Park to Apex Park at 2.15pm, followed by a rally featuring speakers, live music, T-shirt printing (bring a white T-shirt), and a fair trade Pali Stall at 3pm.

Special Guests: Nasser Mashni (APAN), Remah Naji (Justice for Palestine), Subhi Awad (NRFOP), Juman (Palestinian Singer), Lucy Gallant, Sasha Grace, Immuna Flo, Ella Bancroft and more.

  1. Hamas Principles and Policies May 2017 (excerpt)
17 The Zionist movement must disappear from Palestine
18 The following are considered null and void: the Balfour Declaration, the British Mandate Document, the UN Palestine Partition Resolution. The establishment of “Israel” is entirely illegal
19 There shall be no recognition of the legitimacy of the Zionist entity. Whatever has befallen the land of Palestine in terms of occupation, settlement building, Judaization or changes to its features or falsification of facts is illegitimate.
20 Hamas believes that no part of the land of Palestine shall be compromised or conceded, irrespective of the causes, the circumstances and the pressures and no matter how long the occupation lasts. Hamas rejects any alternative to the full and complete liberation of Palestine, from the river to the sea.
21 Hamas affirms that the Oslo Accords and their addenda contravene the governing rules of international law. Therefore, the Movement rejects these agreements
22 Hamas rejects all the agreements, initiatives and settlement projects that are aimed at undermining the Palestinian cause
23 Resistance and jihad for the liberation of Palestine will remain a legitimate right, a duty and an honour for all the sons and daughters of our people
24 The liberation of Palestine is the duty of the Palestinian people.
25 Resisting the occupation with all means and methods is a legitimate right guaranteed by divine laws and by international norms and laws. At the heart of these lies armed resistance, which is regarded as the strategic choice for protecting the principles and the rights of the Palestinian people.
26 Hamas rejects any attempt to undermine the resistance and its arms.
27 A real state of Palestine is a state that has been liberated. There is no alternative to a fully sovereign Palestinian State on the entire national Palestinian soil, with Jerusalem as its capital.

    • Of course this is their mandate John
The Palestinians were driven from their homes at gunpoint in 1948 and have suffered a litany of well documented
      Massacres in the years since
What do you expect them to do…send the Zionists a thank you card ?
Jews, muslims and Christian’s coexisted peacefully for generations until Zionist extremists decided to expel the native Palestinians from their ancestral homeland claiming some god given right on the basis of some superstitious gobeldegook chiseled into stone by an illiterate goat herder a thousand years ago

      • And so youd suport the aboriginals of Australia taking the same path, with you and Byron the focus of missile atacks, bombed markets and bus’s, and Splendour raided by armed gunmen and you taken as hostage.. Hamas is infected by Islamic fanaticism – if you think hamas is the answer you are wrong. Noting the diferences of course that the Jews established a Jewish country there in 900 BC that was in existence longer than the British occupation here, and that Jews have continually lived there since. And the re- establishment of this speck of land Israel as the Jewish homeland under jewish controll didnt incorporate Gaza or the West bank, and Egypt and Jordan who were left in control of those areas but didnt create a ‘Palestinian’ state (who in fact have severe concerns with Hamas – Egypt has blocked its border, and Jordan shot down Hamas’s puppet master’s Iranian missles aimed at israel). The Jews ( and the Socialist and Communist Israeli Palestinians)accepted the 2 state solution put forward by the League of Nations on the British decolonisation of Israel (which would have provided a 300km long Israel controll over its formative homeland and still remaining 2000 year old built religious heritage) but the majority of the 70% Pallestinians, and surrounding Muslim countries did not accept 50% of the land for the 70 % of ‘Pallestinians’, so they incepted the war. But that war saw aprox 10,000 ‘Pallestinians’ killed, while perhaps 1,000,000 Aboriginals died here. Post war the remaining 100,000 + ‘Palestinians in Israel retained ownership of land – all land was taken from Aboriginals. Israel recognised both Hebrew and Arabic as Israels languages – all Aboriginal languages were violently supressed here. Israel didnt take children from Arabs and didnt move Arabs into Aboriginal like concentration camps –
I dont deny the huge rifts, but if you thing violent Islamic Jihad is the answer, then note the Australian Muslims with lapel badges of the Aboriginal and Palestinian flag – and Im sure Iran will supply missiles and guns for ‘Jihad’ against you, and there will be no peace in Israel.

      • I dont think that the minority of Gazans who voted against Hamas, or the multiple thousand strong Gazans who faced off Hamas violence in protesting against hamas, or the Gazan women who want to get out from under the repressive dress code, Honour killings and Genital Mutilation of girls, or the over 1500 Israely Palestinian Muslims that have vollunteered to fight in the Israeli army against Hamas ( that killed Israeli Muslim Pallestinians at the Nova Festival), or the Gazan Gays that have to hide their sexuality or become one of the annual murder of gays in Gaza, or the 20 % of Isreali Pallestinians that are part of the Israeli medical system, with simmilar representation through all business and shopkeeper (and enjoying a far higher income that all surounding countries). Who are you actually supporting?

  2. If they really wanted to stop the death of Palestinians, they’d be marching to release the October 7 hostages and dismantle the terrorist organisation Hamas. Instant ceasefire.

  3. “The organisers are calling on the Australian government to change its policies and take decisive action to end the atrocities in Gaza. ”

    Declare war on Israel perhaps?

  4. After the Nazis killed 6,000,000 European Jews, now 45% of the world’s Jewish people live in Israel. Of Israeli Jews alive today, 80% were born in Israel. A majority of Israel’s Jews are not descended from Europe but rather from Arab nations where their forefathers were forced to flee by Mohamad armies that swept down the Arabian peninsular and destroying the pre islamic cultures and their languages, converting, by force and a non Muslim tax, the countries into Muslim cultures and speaking Arabic. Hamas’s Charter states Israel was always Muslim land – it, and all the surrounding countries, werent. Benny Gantz, part of the Israeli War Cabinet, has spelled out a six-point plan that includes the return of hostages, ending Hamas’ rule, demilitarizing the Gaza Strip, and establishing an international administration of civilian affairs with American, European, Arab, and Palestinian cooperation. Suport for a land shared between Jews and Pallestinians is needed, not suport for Hamas’s Islamic Jihad

  5. John

This ship has sailed nobody believes your propaganda anymore. Everything you’ve just said is 100% factually incorrect. Further to the point Australia treats its aboriginal population well if Israel were to treat the Palestinians the way Australia treats Aboriginals, there would be no need for Hamas.

All human rights organizations are well-versed in Israeli apartheid.

I’m interested thou you blame what is happening in Gaza on Hamas. Who do you blame the mudering of Palestinians in the West Bank on given that Hamas doesn’t exist in the West Bank?

I’m only offended by the fact that you thought you could spill so much rubbish and lies and think that you will not be found out.

The world is awake mate you’re the minority nobody with an ounce of humanity will ever accept the bombing of innocent women and children.

The fact that you believe that such a reason exists only highlights what a monster you are.

    Free Palestine.
