NSW Police say a man has been charged with murder and a woman has died after she was found critically injured at a home in Casino on Saturday.

Police attended a home on Johnston Street, Casino, about 2.30am (Saturday, 29 June), following reports of a concern for welfare.

Officers attached to Richmond Police District arrived and rendered first aid to a woman – believed to be aged in her 40s – suffering head injuries; however, she died at the scene.

A 31-year-old man – who police will allege was known to the woman – was arrested at the home and taken to Lismore Police Station, where he has now been charged with one count of murder.

The Casino man was refused bail before his appearance in Lismore Bail Court yesterday, Sunday, June 30.

The woman is the 47th lost to violence allegedly by a man known to her this year and the second over weekend after another woman died after she was allegedly stabbed by a male who then stole a vehicle in Innisfail, Queensland.

A man is in custody. It is believed the man knew her.
