Ian Murrell is running in Ward C for Kyogle Shire Council.
What do you love about the Kyogle region?
I have lived a peaceful existence in Kyogle for eight years with my partner, Eija. My home in Kyogle LGA is secluded, but also close enough to various practical locations.
Why are you putting your hand up for the Kyogle Council?
I am drawn to helping the community.
What relevant skills or experience do you bring to the position?
I was a cabinetmaker and a Clinical Nurse who worked in the area haemato-oncology in Australia and overseas. I have been on the board of a Body Corporate in Brisbane, and on the board of a food co-operative.
What do you see as Kyogle’s role in the regional housing crisis?
By finding out what the current situation is, and connecting with people and agencies who have expertise around accommodation. Housing is part of the Kyogle Community Strategic Plan 2022-2032, and I will determine what this plan contributes to solving the problem.
Do you think there is a role for local councillors beyond roads, rates and rubbish? If so, what is it?
I have no plans for Kyogle except to make it an appealing place to live, work, and visit. I think the role of a councillor is what the people of Kyogle LGA say the role should be. The council is both a tool for the present and well as a trust for the future.
