Ballina Council wrap

With local government meeting practice across the state returning to confusion following the NSW Legislative Council's recent decision, Ballina Shire Council's last meeting included a lot of unanimous decisions and an argument about the remnants of the Big Scrub, in which Mayor Cadwallader used her casting vote to squash Cr Simon Chate's motion.

Financial woes

Byron Shire’s financial woes are not the result of a lack of money, but rather the waste of it....

Thank you N Feinstein for your letter in The Echo describing your family’s direct experience in Israel and at the fact that Arab / Palestinian Israelis have full equal rights to live and pursue any career that they wish to in Israel.

Arab citizens, especially women, can only dream about having such freedom and rights in Muslim countries. As you say, there are far more Arab / Palestinian doctors in Israel than Jewish ones, and obviously, the bulk of their patients would be Jewish.

Israeli Supreme Court judge George Karra (an Israeli Arab  / Palestinian) sentenced Israeli (Jewish) president Moshe Katsav to a lengthy prison term.

These are but two examples, but the haters will never mention these facts.

Yes there are a few thousand very noisy anti-Zionist Jews around the world but there are literally millions of pro-Zionist Muslims who will destroy any supposed argument that these anti-Zionist sheep would have. Israel is not perfect, no country in the world is perfect. This war is shit, and people on both sides continue to be killed. Every single person killed or wounded is a tragedy that could have been avoided.

Fact-based dialogue is what is needed worldwide to make this the last Arab / Israeli war, and then Israelis and our Palestinian cousins, who have so much in common with each other, can live in true peace and the region will thrive. Peace is the only solution.
