
Around 1.15pm, Thursday 17 October, a Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance to a cruise ship off the Byron Coast to conduct a medical evacuation.
A woman in her 80s was suffering a serious medical condition.
The helicopter’s critical care medical team were winched onboard the ship to stabilise the patient before winch extracting her and airlifting her to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
