Upgrades on Richmond Hill Road near Goonellabah in the Lismore local government area have finished, costing nearly $5 million.
The 2.85km road has been completely rebuilt over the past twelve months, including associated stormwater infrastructure, at a cost of $4.95 million, the Lismore City Council says.
The council says the project happened over seven stages and included adjustments to more than 90 driveways.
Project funds comprised $2.8 million from the state government’s Fixing Local Roads program, $220,500 from the state government’s Regional Emergency Road Repair Fund, and nearly $2 million from the council.
‘Roads are very important for Council and for our community,’ Councillor Krieg says, ‘we maintain 804km of sealed and 411km of unsealed roads across the LGA’.
State Labor Member for Lismore and NSW Parliamentary Secretary for Disaster Recovery Janelle Saffin says she regularly travels along Richmond Hill Road and has watched its reconstruction take shape.
‘I was impressed by the staged approach taken by Lismore City Council infrastructure team,’ Ms Saffin says, referring to a ‘challenging, sloping section of the road’ and the council’s ‘efforts to minimise disruption to motorists and local residents’.
