A young man wanted for several domestic violence and police pursuits offences caused two crashes and stole a moped from its driver waiting at traffic lights, police say.
Lismore police say they started investigating domestic violence accusations against the 22-year-old in mid-November.
He’s accused of participating in several police pursuits as he tried to avoid arrest in subsequent days: Monday 18 November, Monday 2 December and Wednesday 4 December.
Police say they saw the accused man traveling south on the M1 at Tweed Heads in a four-wheel drive late Friday afternoon.
Officers took chase when the man failed to follow police directions but stopped due to safety concerns.
A short time later, the four-wheel drive is said to have exited the motorway at Minjungbal Drive on Banora Point before crashing into a sedan waiting at traffic lights.
The crash forced the sedan to crash into a marked police car travelling in the opposite direction.
The accused man is then said to have abandoned the four-wheel drive and to have forced another man off their moped, before taking it and using it to drive at police cars back on the M1.
Police say the accused then fell off the moped and started running but was soon arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station.
He faces charges in relation to thirteen offences, including some related to domestic violence.
