Australia’s cricket legends, including local sporting icons Adam (Gilly) Gilchrist and Steve O’Keefe, will travel to Lismore next year to compete against the ‘Mayor’s 11′ at Oakes Oval.

Lismore City Mayor Steve Krieg will lead the Mayor’s 11 into battle against Gilly’s 11, the event follows the very popular inaugural Legends of Cricket event held in 2023.

The battle will now resume

Mayor Krieg said that after success of the Legends of Cricket Twenty20 in 2023, a few of the players approached him to ask if there would be a round two. ‘Thanks to our naming rights sponsor Bennett Constructions, the battle will now resume in February 2025 after my team went down in 2023’s Legends of the Game 20/20 cricket picnic day, as part of the Opening our Heart series of events.

‘I can’t announce the full list of players at this stage but what I can say is the calibre of the legendary cricket players who are donating their time to play for Lismore is incredible.

A day to remember

‘It is sure to be a day to remember in Lismore’s sporting history and I would particularly like to thank Bennett Constructions. Without locally focussed businesses like them, Council simply could not put on events of this quality.’

Both teams will be4 made up of local junior and senior cricketers mixed with sporting legends and celebrities. Cricket NSW has worked closely with Gilly to select some local cricketing legends and up-and-coming junior talent to play.

Spin bowler, Steve O’Keefe who attended the media announcement, said some of his earliest memories playing cricket were in Lismore as a junior in the U/12 cricket carnival.

‘It’s been devastating to see what happened to the town during and after the flood,’ he said. ‘Lismore is a town filled with hope and true Aussie spirit. However, now more than ever, it still needs help from all Aussies and the Government to help it get back to the thriving city it once was.

An absolute thrill

‘It’s an absolute thrill to be a part of the Legends of Cricket game again. Any opportunity to play with some of the games greatest players is a dream come true even for me as a 40-year-old.

‘I am hoping the town, like last time, really comes out in force to meet these humble legends who are throwing their support behind the stoic community.’

Grandstand seating will be first-come first-served. There will also be an opportunity to purchase limited tickets to a VIP function at the Gordon Pavilion where you can watch the game in air-conditioned comfort.

The Legends of the Cricket will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 3pm to 6pm at Oakes Oval, Lismore. Gates open at 1pm.

Tickets are available from today, via: www.oztix.com.au. Ticket Prices are: Adult – $20, Concession – $10, Family – $50, U10s are free.
