Probably due to bad karma I spent my younger years among counter-culture types: dopers, surfers, hippies, LSD-mystics, public servants, artists, poets and assorted bohemians. Sixty years later, it’s such a pleasure to revisit their views of imminent environmental apocalypticism, far-left politics and the attacks on capitalism in The Echo letters to the editor every week. Your fine publication demonstrates the wonderful power of capitalism, the market economy, and advertising without which there would be no Echo and no public space for the disseminating of those views.
Your journalism has always been at odds with the actual successful growth, prosperity, and enjoyment of the area which has been documented in, and supported by, the advertising. There’s a message in there somewhere but I doubt your staff and readers will get it.

For four decades The Echo has printed the stories some people loved, some people hated, and some pretended not to read. If you want us to keep telling the truth, the real truth, not the sugar-coated version. We’ll need your support to keep the presses rolling.
