Fingal Head and Banora Point were two Northern Rivers community-driven tree planting projects that have received funding from a collaboration between Landcare Australia and Bupa to transform local environments into healthier, greener spaces for everyone to enjoy.

The Fingal Head Coastcare project organised a community day to plant 600 trees in degraded landscape south of Fingal Head NSW.
‘The planting location is important to the community and environment because It is an area of coastal woodland that has been degraded through sand mining and replanting of non-native species,’ explained the project team.
‘We can’t wait to see these projects come to life, and I am proud of our partnership with Bupa and the commitment to empower communities to make a meaningful impact on both the health of their local environments and people’s wellbeing —values that lie at the very heart of Landcare. It is also inspiring to witness the dedication of so many volunteers, groups and organisations who are passionate about supporting their communities,; said Landcare Australia CEO Dr Shane Norrish.

Banora Points Watergum community project aims to empower the community to increase wildlife corridors, improve liveability and create valuable urban habitat. Volunteers including local students have been involved in the project through planting days and will continue as part of the ongoing local stewardship.
