Bangalow musician Barry Ferrier (aka Dr Baz), a well-known face around the local entertainment scene, has had quite a run of success recently for his independent filmmaking and music video productions.

While many people have greeted the AI revolution with fear and trepidation, Barry Ferrier has taken up the challenge and dived headlong into the new world of creative possibilities AI offers the guerilla film maker. In the past 12 months he’s won 14 international film awards in film festivals across the globe .

In January his 30-minute sci-fi film Entombed, based on a short story by local writer Des Collins, was awarded ‘Best Experimental Film’ at the New York Arthouse Film Festival.

He directed & edited the music videos for two songs by former comedian, now local musician, George Smilovici – Lyra’s Dream – which won the ‘Best Music Video’ award at the Hollywood Discovery Awards, and Bailar con la Luna, which won the ‘Best Music Video’ Award at the New York Underground Cinema Awards.

His video clip for his original song Welcome to Tomorrow won the ‘Best Music Video’ ward at both the 2024 California Indies Film Festival and the Austin International Art Festival.

Echoes of the Future won Best Music Video at the 2024 New York Shorts Film Festival. His retro sci-fi electro-pop video Living Sci-Fi won ‘Best Music Video’ at the Toronto Film & Script Awards. Titanic Deckchairs – which focuses on global inaction in the face of existential crises, won Best Music Video at the 4th Amsterdam Movie Festival.

The music video Midnight Till Dawn Shift was awarded Best Music Video at the 2024 Seattle Filmmaker Awards. His animated film The Sea Remembers won the Best Animation Award at the 9th Cannes Arts Film Festival. It also won Best Environmental Film at the 2024 New York Shorts Film Festival.

Barry Ferrier topped off this run of success off with Best Music Video at the Edinburgh Independent Film Festival for Count Dracula’s Mistress, and he was awarded Best Erotic Short at the Niagara Falls International Film Festival for Je Veux Te Sentir.
