
A severe thunderstorm has moved across the Northern Rivers this morning, with extremely high winds and multiple lightning strikes taking out power in many places.

Lismore, Murwillumbah, Mullumbimby, Byron Bay, Ballina, Casino, Kyogle, Tweed Heads, Coolangatta, and surrounding areas were all directly impacted by the storm with approximately 2,500 houses without electricity across the region.

There are trees down in numerous locations with debris on the roads. There have been five road accidents including at Evans Head, Main Arm. Please avoid travel if possible until the storm has passed.
The extreme weather is currently impacting the Tweed and Southern Gold Coast, while the worst of the storm is now moving out to sea to the north east.
