Ballina Shire Councillors Kiri Dicker, Michelle Bailey, Eva Ramsey have teamed up to organise a free event to encourage residents of Lennox Head to join a wider array of community and sporting groups, with hopes of promoting social cohesion and greater community connection.
The B Ward councillors say the idea for the Community Connections Expo came about after several local groups and events were abandoned due to lack of members and volunteers, including the Lennox Head CWA, Boomerang Bags and the Lennox Head Christmas Carols.
More broadly, the community of Lennox Head is growing rapidly, with hundreds of new families moving to the area each year, many of whom are unfamiliar with the array of community groups working on various issues.
Saturday 8 February
Residents will be able to come to the Lennox Head Community Centre from 9am-12pm on Saturday 8th February and meet all the community and sporting groups operating in or servicing the Lennox Head area, find out more about their work and become a member.
The event hopes to promote the many and varied groups that are operating in the local area and help them attract new members, contributing to their sustainability and the social fabric of the community.
The organisers hope that if the Expo is successful, it will become an annual event and an example of how councillors can work together on joint initiatives to benefit their community.
Community and sporting groups can contact any of the B Ward Councillors to receive a link to register for a free table at the event.
Benefits of getting involved
Cr Kiri Dicker said, ‘Joining a community or sporting group is one of the best ways to meet new people and contribute to your local community.

Whether it’s the school canteen, community garden or chamber of commerce, our local community and sporting groups are always in need or more members and volunteers.
‘I encourage everyone to come and find out what’s happening in their community and get involved.’
Cr Michelle Bailey said, ‘By offering this platform, and highlighting the important work of these organisations, we hope to inspire residents to get involved, whether through volunteering or participating in club activities.
This initiative will not only enhance individual connections but also cultivate a sense of belonging and pride in our community.’
Cr Eva Ramsey said, ‘This event is a unique celebration of unity, purpose and the power of people coming together. Whether you’re looking to give back, find support, or simply explore new ways to get involved, there’s something here for you.
Join us for a unique opportunity to connect, contribute and grow alongside your community through shared values and collaboration. Our community groups provide a platform to enhance mutual benefits for everyone involved.’
