On Sunday, the Byron Bay JWK Karate Club tasted success in round one of the Queensland AMAC (Australian Martial Arts Competition) at Nerang.
Competing in his first karate tournament, Robert Boyle took second place in the beginners Kata.
Overcoming the nerves associated with his first comp, he performed Chi No Kata well enough to come home with silver. This was followed by Anthony Dihn, winning two sliver medals. He won the Advanced Freestyle Sparring and Contact Points Sparring. Robert and Anthony train in the Ewingsdale Dojo, and will compete in round two in July.
They are both well set up to qualify for the Queensland Championships.
