Island and coastal communities, among others across the Northern Rivers, received evacuation directions over the weekend.
People in Uki, Stotts Island and surrounds in the Tweed Shire still had an evacuation direction in place as of early Monday morning owing to flood risks.
Official ‘watch and act – do not enter floodwater’ advice was still in place for lower Uki, Tumbulgum and surrounds.
Residents of Fingal Head were on advice to monitor conditions after receiving advice it was safe to return home with caution around six-thirty Sunday evening.
The Cabbage Tree Island community in the Ballina Shire was directed to evacuate by midday Saturday and was still waiting for advice of when it would be safe to return, with imminent rain likely to delay the declaration.
Meanwhile, four islands further south in the Clarence Valley Shire received emergency alerts to seek shelter from moderate riverine flooding at 9.45pm Sunday: Harwood, Chatsworth, Warregah and Goodwood Islands.
Directions to avoid the area at Shelly Beach in East Ballina, Sharpes Beach at Lennox Head and Fingal Head Beach in the Tweed Shire were issued overnight last Thursday and were yet to change as of Monday morning.
