The NSW government has announced new key health worker accommodation for Kyogle, hoped to help attract more paramedics to the bush.
The project is part of the government’s $10 million investment in key health worker housing for paramedics in regional NSW, with more locations reportedly still being finalised.
Minister for the North Coast and Labor Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin has welcomed the funding, saying local people in Kyogle and surrounding towns and villages have a great need for paramedic care.
The exact site of the dwelling(s) is yet to be finalised.
Four-year program for 500 health worker families
The $10 million housing project is part of the government’s $200.1 million Key Health Worker Accommodation program, announced in the 2024/2025 state budget.
The government says the program supports more than twenty projects across rural, regional and remote NSW, by securing approximately 120 dwellings across regional NSW.
New builds, refurbishment of existing living quarters and the purchase of suitable properties such as residential units are included in the program, which is estimated to support recruitment and retention of more than 500 health workers.
