
The NSW SES advises people at Cabbage Tree Island to PREPARE TO EVACUATE due to due to predicted cyclone related major flooding.
People in low lying areas surrounding Murwillumbah and low lying areas of South Murwillumbah have been asked to prepare to evacuate so that you can safely evacuate when instructed to do so by NSW SES.
‘You should monitor the situation and prepare to evacuate so that you can safely evacuate when instructed. Wherever possible, you should prepare to stay with family or friends, or make other accommodation arrangements,’ said the SES.
Evacuation centre
If you are unable to find accommodation an evacuation centre has been set up at Murwillumbah Tafe, 146 Murwillumbah Street, Murwillumbah NSW.
Based on the predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, rainfall associated with Tropical Cyclone Alfred may cause rapid river rises and extensive flooding. Heavy and locally intense rainfall is forecast from Thursday into the weekend over Northern NSW. Flash flooding is possible. High tides and large waves are expected to increase the flood risk and impacts in low lying coastal areas.
