
The Tweed Shire Council has been awarded nearly $100,000 to fit out a Lifesaving Emergency Response Control Operations Room at the Cabarita Beach Surf Life Saving Club.
The project is one of more than 30 listed in funding under the NSW government’s Surf Club Facility Program for 2024-2025.
The government say the program aims to assist eligible Surf Life Saving Clubs throughout NSW create new and upgraded inclusive and accessible facilities incorporating best practice design principles.
The Cabarita Beach Surf Life Saving Club project involves electrical works, plastering, flooring, and door installations aimed at enhancing safety and functionality for lifesaving activities.

Further south, the Coffs Harbour Surf Life Saving Club is listed for more than $160,000 in funding for ‘urgent structural repairs to concrete columns’ and a retaining wall upgrade ‘to meet Crown Land compliance requirements’, program documents showed.
The government says nearly $5.5 million has been awarded through the Surf Club Facility Program in the latest round.
No clubs in the Byron or Ballina Shires, both in the Ballina state electorate, have received funding in the latest round or the one before, but the Byron Shire Council received $650,000 under the program two years ago for the Brunswick Surf Club, which has recently been knocked down with earth works having happened but construction otherwise yet to start.
The Coffs Harbour club received nearly $60,000 last year, bringing its total funding in recent years to nearly $220,000.
The Tweed Shire Council received nearly $250,000 under the program two years ago in combined funding, mostly for the Cudgen Headlead Surf Club but with more than $50,000 allocated for the Fingal Rovers Surf Life Saving Club.
