How we understand, protect and enhance our environment is key to how we move forward and maintain a sustainable planet and this year the Botanic Gardens Week in Australia and NZ is highlighting this with the theme Guardian’s of the Green: Protecting our Future.
Lismore Rainforest Botanic Gardens are participating with their open day this Sunday, 25 May from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm.
Lismore Rainforest Botanic Gardens, Tracy Whitby says they are encouraging people to ‘learn how Botanic Gardens are like our zoos for animals, conserving rare plants and displaying our very own local plants for the home garden’.
Throughout the open day you can enjoy a range of guided walks that help you identify and understand uncommon plants to useful plants for your garden and useful plants to attract bees.
Local species of native plants will be available for sale, as well as books and cards. There will be educational displays, children’s activities and a morning tea stall. Book online for the regular Guided Walks throughout the morning by emailing [email protected].
The Lismore Botanic Gardens was established by volunteers and is still managed and maintained by this group of Friends of the Gardens, with support from Lismore City Council.
