Ballina Shire Council has a busy agenda for its June meeting, including a number of notices of motion brought by councillors.
Cr Phil Meehan is seeking a report on 26 Endeavour Close, Ballina, the Council-owned site currently leased to the naval cadets of TS Lismore and Rainbow Region Dragon Boat Club, and subject to many heated discussions over the years, with the value of the land steadily increasing.
Cr Simon Chate is seeking the installation of a gate and fence palings to fully enclose the children’s playground at Geoff Watt Oval in Alstonville, in order to fulfil Council’s duty of care.
Cr Kiri Dicker is seeking new advice from the Local Traffic Committee in respect to options to mitigate the risk of the impact of vehicles driving on Bagotville Road on the local koala population.
Cr Therese Crollick has a couple of motions addressing the plastic waste problem across Ballina shire, including one to encourage patrons of local pools to bring their own cups when they purchase coffee rather than using single use plastic cups, and a more ambitious motion to eliminate single use packaging and materials across all Council operations, as has already been done in some other NSW LGAs.

Cr Crollick also has a motion to investigate the cost of upgrading PV Walsh Park in Wardell to allow social and recreational activities on the site, considering the loss of community sporting fields elsewhere in Wardell since the 2022 floods.
Ballina’s meeting begins at Council Chambers at 9am tomorrow, and is also accessible online via Council’s website.
