Police say they seized an e-bike from a teenager in the Tweed Shire (PIC supplied)

Police say they’ve seized an unregistered electric bike and issued multiple fines to a teenager after investigating dangerous riding around the NSW/QLD border.

Officers say they stopped an unregistered electric motorcycle at a carwash at the intersection of Kennedy Drive and Ducat Street, Tweed Heads, around 1pm Sunday 8 June.

They say the rider, a 16-year-old boy, tried to flee but they stopped him and issued him with more than $3,000 worth of traffic infringements including riding an uninsured and unregistered vehicle.

Officers say they also seized the electric bike.

  1. Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000

There’s been a recent surge in road biker anti-social behaviour happening in and around Ocean Shores.
Road bikes being ridden at breakneck speed along local streets and byways and on the MI at various times of the day and night. Either a biker will come to grief at some point and or an innocent member of the public will end up injured or worse.
If you live near by one of the current crop of idiots please take a moment to inform Crime Stoppers of said bikers current whereabouts and movements either over the phone or via the Crime Stoppers website.

  2. Police should come to Kingscliff &Casuarina: kids as young as 10 years olds speeding on the footpath &Casuarina way at 40kms/hrs! Especially on the footpath between Kingscliff &Casuarina . Plus dirt bikes at full speed . Council fines people with off leash dogs but ignores those on fat tires motorcycles ! Because they are motorcycles not electric bikes. Where are the councillors like James Owen ( he was against dogs beach areas in Casuarina plus spent money on expensive footpath signing re dogs off leash!) .

  3. It’s a start. There are a couple of guys who wizz down my street, morning and night. They’re obviously commuting on illegal e-bikes – too fast for a 250w bike and no pedaling. These are unregistered motorbikes and they should be pursued with the full force of the law.
