Like many places throughout the Northern Rivers Nimbin was severely impacted by the 2022 floods.
‘The 2022 natural disaster was unprecedented in scale, causing significant damage to numerous essential public assets located in and around Nimbin, from roads to stormwater infrastructure. This led to interruptions of service and impeded access,’ said a recent update from Lismore City Council (LCC).
Lismore City Council say they are continuing to deliver on a range of important and impactful projects right across the LCC area and of particular note for residents of Nimbin and surrounds will be the commencement and completion of restoration works.
While they have already completed works to Nimbin Road and other facilities they are now looking to commence and or finish works at the following sites

Building back with resilience?
While there has been ample talk from state and federal governments on ‘building back better’ and the community is on board, unfortunately, most funding for restoration works is only to replace facilities and infrastructure rather than building in future resilience.
‘Council often receives questions about “building back better” for restoration works,’ said a recent LCC update.
‘Lismore’s flood restoration funding typically requires asset replacement to be “like for like”, taking it back to preflood condition, with only minor improvements for resilience allowed. Major changes, like sealing an unsealed road, are not possible in most instances. Council is continuing to collaborate with funding agencies to explore opportunities to broaden project scopes.’
