New fire trucks have been delivered to the Lismore state electorate in time for the next bushfire season, the local MP says.
Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin, also the NSW Minister for Recovery, says the new tankers have been delivered to Bonalbo, Jiggi Valley and Tuncester over the past twelve months along with operational technology and equipment.
The new trucks are part of a fleet of 290 new and refurbished fire vehicles across the state this financial year at a cost of $5 million and come equipped with Mobile Data Terminals, designed to improve communication, connectivity and safety in remote and disaster-impacted areas.
‘I had the chance to inspect the new Tuncester appliance soon after it arrived and it is an enormous improvement on the old fire truck,’ Ms Saffin said in her announcement on Friday.
Ms Saffin said the truck had the latest equipment and an airconditioned cabin, which the local fire crew was ‘most excited’ about.
The Bush Fire Danger Period for parts of northern NSW starts 1 August, with the danger period for the entire state starting 1 October.
Meanwhile in Sydney, NSW Minister for Emergency Services Jihad Dib welcomed more than 200 new firefighters to Fire and Rescue NSW ranks at a graduation ceremony at the Emergency Services Academy in Orchard Hills, in Sydney’s west, on Friday.
