Police say they’ve seized two gel blaster firearms in a search of campsites in Belongil Beach dunes last week.
Officers say they worked alongside Byron Shire Council Rangers last Tuesday 19 August to target illegal camping and anti-social behaviour in the dunes.
They say they also seized several power tools and e-bikes suspected of being stolen or otherwise unlawfully obtained as part of what was officially called Operation Sandblast.
Four people were reportedly searched, which police say resulted in several ‘drug detections’.
Investigations continue and police say they will continue to work with the Byron Shire Council to address illegal camping.
28 charges in Tweed Heads operation
The operation was one of two across the Tweed Byron Police District last week.
Police say Operation Ruston was aimed at anti-social behaviour in Tweed Heads, Tweed Heads South and Kingscliff.
Officers report 28 charges for property related thefts, drugs offences, outstanding warrants, offensive behaviour and hindering police in the execution of their duty.
