The Rous County Council is advising drivers in Byron Bay of works to start this week, weather permitting, on a major water infrastructure upgrade.
The council says the work is likely to impact local traffic conditions.
Nearly a thousand metres of water pipeline originally installed in 1952 is to be replaced along Bangalow Road and Paterson Streets.
Ledonne Constructions was scheduled to start work today.Commuters are advised to expect traffic speed restrictions and occasional partial road closures during off-peak times, with construction expected to be finished by early December.
Mullum stormwater upgrades continue
Meanwhile the Byron Shire Council says it has workers starting on the next stages of an upgrade to the stormwater system on Station Street in Mullumbimby this month.
The work comes after installation of stormwater crossings at the corner of Station Street and Fern Street earlier this year.
Byron Shire Council Infrastructure Services Director Phil Holloway says there have been delays finishing the project, mostly owing to weather including ex-tropical cyclone Alfred.
Mr Holloway says once the work is done it will address flooding in that part of Mullumbimby.
There are to be changed traffic conditions and temporary road closures in Orchid Place, Fern Street, McGoughans Lane and Station Street until mid-November depending on weather.
