A group of campers were evicted recently from land behind Seven Mile Beach, following a Supreme Court ruling against local Indigenous man Jaabarun Nyangbul.
In May, Mr Nyangbul’s solicitor said in court that the land was never ceded and that the courts were ‘fraudulent’, while the NSW government argued that ‘what has occurred in the state’s submission is classic trespass.’

Justice Tim Faulkner acknowledged the complexity of the situation but said he could only administer state law.
He ordered that Mr Nyangbul return possession of the land and pay the state’s costs.
Police, rangers and Ballina Council workers then forcibly evicted the occupants of the camp last week, which had grown in recent times as the homelessness crisis across the region continues.
A large amount of rubbish has also been removed from the site.
The Echo has sought comment from Ballina Council.
