The Lismore City Council is seeking community support via a survey on its website to help secure federal funds for upgrades to two roads in the local government area.
Dunoon Road, which connects The Channon, Dunoon and Modenville with Lismore, is one project and the other is part of Tweed Street from the Terania Street intersection through to its second roundabout.
The council says the Tweed Street upgrade is in relation to the planned North Lismore Plateau development.
Meanwhile, Mayor Steve Krieg says Dunoon Road’s traffic will increase when hundreds of new housing lots are developed on the North Lismore Plateau, and also when Richmond River High is opened.
The mayor joined council staff on Monday at the Dunoon Road site in a staged media event trying to call attention to the project.
There were reportedly 3,038 average daily traffic movements on Dunoon Road in 2023, with nearly eight per cent being classed as heavy traffic.
The council says it hopes to be approved for up to $5 million via a federal government grant for the projects and that survey results will show ‘the breadth of community support’.
The Lismore City Council survey is available via the council’s Your Say section on its website.
