Two adults and a teenager have been charged over an alleged car chase from across the Queensland border into NSW on Christmas Day.
Queensland Police were reportedly tracking a sedan stolen from Brisbane around 11am on Christmas Day last Thursday 25 December before it crossed the border southbound about 5pm.
The vehicle was reportedly seen on Kennedy Drive at Tweed Heads West a short time later, triggering a police pursuit that officers say was called off a short time later due to safety concerns.
The Queensland Police Air Wing continued to track the vehicle towards Byron Bay, where officers deployed road spikes but the sedan is alleged to have continued south on the M1 Pacific Motorway before turning off at Tamarind Drive towards Ballina and stopping in Russell Street.
Police arrested the three occupants a short time later and have since charged a 36-year-old man with three related offences, including driving a motor vehicle whist on a suspended licence.
Officers also charged a 24-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy for being ‘carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner’.
