A critical incident investigation has commenced, say NSW Police, after a man was injured during a pursuit in the Northern Rivers yesterday (Thursday).
Police say, ‘About 6.40pm yesterday (Thursday 18 December 2025), police attempted to stop a Subaru Forester on the Pacific Highway at Tanglewood – about 10km south of Kingscliff – owing to the manner of driving’.
‘When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
‘The pursuit continued along Clothiers Creek Road and onto Sliprails Road where police briefly lost sight of the vehicle.
‘A short time later, police came across the vehicle after it had crashed into a tree.
‘FRNSW firefighters, NSW Ambulance paramedics, and VRA NSW members attended and removed the driver from the car.
‘The 23-year-old man was treated at the scene before being taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
‘A crime scene was established and officers from the Crash Investigation Unit have commenced inquiries into the incident.
‘A critical incident team from Richmond Police District has commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the police involvement in the incident.
‘The investigation will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC)’, says the police spokesperson.
