State Labor Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin last week urged local faith-based organisations to apply for a final round of grants aimed at improved safety and security.
Ms Saffin’s encouragement was announced prior to the Bondi shooting attacks over the weekend, described as an antisemitic massacre.
The $5 million Safe Places for Faith Communities Grants program had already been launched in NSW, with government funds available for enhanced safety and security for religious communities.
The program was delivered in three rounds, with overall available investment of $15 million.
CCTV, security training funds available
Ms Saffin on Friday issued a reminder of the program’s third and last round of applications.
Grants could be used for upgrading security and surveillance systems such as CCTV and secure fencing at places of worship, religious schools, community centres, and other sites of religious significance.
Developing risk management plans and training were also included among other eligible expenditure.
Applications were to remain open until 4pm, Friday 30 January 2026, through Multicultural NSW.
