A total import ban needs to be placed upon the weapons, namely guns of any description from an overseas port unless an issued permit is given prior to the departure from the export country to Australia.
The permit would be a required full background check with ASIO and state police of ‘all’ our states and territories prior to any local purchase or transfer of any form of weapon that propels a lethal projectile that will cause harm or death.
The permit is to be renewed annually at the expense of the permit holder to ensure that there are no changes to the status of the permit holder.
All weapons are to be deposited in a police or ASIO armoury and the weapons that include a breech-block and bolt are to be separated and safely locked within such armoury. If such weapon[s] are found to be in the hands without a permit, a minimum jail sentence of 20 years could be a good deterrent.
