Operators of Byron Bay charity Fletcher Street Cottage say the local rotary club has donated $5,000 to its Women’s Emergency Relief Fund.
The charity says the money from the Rotary Club of Byron Bay will help local women facing domestic and family violence, housing insecurity and financial hardship.
The fund is part of the Byron Women program, which provides emergency transport, food vouchers and financial aid as well as other support to women of all ages across the Byron Shire.
Rotary Club of Byron Bay member Vanessa Wood says the donation reflects Rotary’s ongoing commitment to community wellbeing.
Byron Community Centre Acting General Manager Michelle Heuer says staff at the cottage see women every week facing incredibly difficult circumstances.
‘This funding will help provide emergency accommodation, essential supplies and one-on-one support to help women start rebuilding their lives,’ Ms Heuer said via a media announcement.
