The southern stars are aligned and Steve Banks is back for another summer show with his celebrated rockin’ band The Sidemen, coming soon to the Byron Theatre on Friday, January 16.
The cream of the Shire’s many musicians and a personal project of Steve’s, the Sidemen are something of a moveable feast, depending on their availability. With one founding member away on a working world tour and another likewise indisposed, Steve’s recruited a new face for the show, Alex McLeod on guitar, joining his two mates (and regular Sidemen) Mike Mills and Grant Gerathy from local power trio, The Sea Benz. Should be fun! Both seasoned sidemen, Mike’s done time on bass with Alex Lloyd’s band and Grant’s held the drummer’s chair for more than one world tour with the John Butler Trio.
Two of Steve’s favourite chanteuses, Amie Stuart and Chloe West, are back on seamless backup and featured lead vocals, along with busy sideman Brendan St Ledger on keyboards and the old Black Sorrow himself, Jeff Burstin on guitar. Another founding member and effective musical director for the band, Jeff’s got history on stage and record with two of Australia’s top bands (in their day), Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons and The Black Sorrows. These days he gigs regularly around Melbourne and records with The Hornets.
As usual, Steve will be spotlighting each player with tunes they wrote or helped to make famous, or were inspired by – the ones they wish they’d written.
That’s a seven-piece rockin’ band for your listening pleasure – with frontman Steve directing the spotlight, kidding you along, and tossing in a couple of his own songs.
One night only, 7.30pm start – they hope to see you there! Tickets: byroncentre.com.au
